It’s time for The One Show results everyone! When we heard South Africa had 21 finalists this year we damn near Black Eyed Pea’d ourselves and exclaimed ‘Boom Boom Pow’. Now it’s great to see this incredible work convert. Congratulations to all of you! With over 50 countries and regions around the world entering, this is big for South Africa. Well done.
This month’s IDIDTHAT.co Craft Awards were judged by our forever reigning queens Juliet Honey, Creative Director at TBWA Hunt Lascaris and Justine Puren-Calverley, Director at FirstPencil. We bow in awe because wow, this was a particularly tough month with some really strong work! Chicken Licken takes it! Congratulations to the team behind the spot Dave ‘Legs of Thunder’ Mgijimi.
Chocolate Tribe, the high-end visual effects, animation, and IP development studio, has once again made us say, ‘Wait, is that not real?!’ The game of creature creation on the continent has been taken to another level with their latest animated hyena character named Jonga, a photoreal masterpiece crafted for the Netflix film ‘iNumber Number 2: Jozi Gold.’ This project marks the first CGI-created creature to come from South Africa in a Netflix feature but more importantly, this work proves that even our smaller studios from South Africa can rival the best in the world. Go Tribe!

The 61st D&AD took place on 24th & 25th May 2023 in London. The Awards incorporate more than 40 categories judged by nearly 400 of the world’s leading creatives. Romance and director Greg Gray took home a Graphite Pencil for Chicken Licken 'Feel the Fire', which they collaborated on with the meisters from Joe Public United, Deliverance, Marc Algranti Music and Chocolate Tribe.
