A clean sweep for the Colonel. This month’s IDIDTHAT.co Craft Awards saw KFC take both top honours, with judges Catherine Wanliss, Creative Director at Accenture Song, and Kyle Lewis, Director at Egg Films, recognising top Craft from Zee Ntuli from Darling Films and Grant de Sousa of They Films.
When agencies start building their own production arms (think Prodigious, Hogarth and beyond) it raises the question everyone in the industry’s been whispering: what happens to South Africa’s independent production companies? Are in-house models the sleek, efficient future of advertising… or are they quietly dismantling the craft that made our work world-class?
This month’s IDIDTHAT.co Craft Awards were in excellent hands, judged by two of the industry’s finest: Sbu Sitole, Chief Creative Officer at The Odd Number, and director Zwelethu Radebe from Egg Films. A massive congratulations to this month’s top crafters, directors Sanaa Mothabisa from Sanaa Films and Zee Ntuli from Darling Films, for work that the judges thought stood out. Nice one gents!

Egg Films has signed Canadian-based director Marc Sidelsky, bringing his cinematic style and subversive humor to South Africa. Known for his deadpan, bone-dry wit, Marc now has a creative home for his bold storytelling at Egg Films, where he’ll be available for local agency work.
This month’s IDIDTHAT.co Craft Awards brought together two powerhouse judges: Neema Nouse, Integrated Creative Director at The Odd Number, and Dani Hynes, Director and Founder of Love Films. And they both agreed – Best of Craft this month goes to Karien Cherry from Giant Films.

Egg Films is thrilled to welcome Lisa Wides (formerly Lisa Jaffee) as their new Head of Communication. She’s no newcomer to the advertising world, bringing over 17 years of experience as an agency TV Producer, most recently serving as the Head of Broadcast at Ogilvy before taking a break to raise kids. Lisa will be a dedicated resource and point of contact for agencies, working closely with agency producers and creatives, serving as the go-to person, and providing agencies with an invaluable resource throughout campaigns.

Imraan Christian’s recent move to Egg Films marks a natural, yet anticipated, evolution in his artistic journey. The award-winning director has very quickly made a name for himself in the commercials world, crafting strong visual work and embracing a profound commitment to creating lasting relationships with his collaborators and cast. This philosophy is beautifully encapsulated in his personal mantra, ‘I always hope to leave more than I take.’ The announcement of Imraan joining the roster at Egg Films coincides with the release of his latest commercial for TymeBank in collaboration Accenture Song.
