Every year, Loeries brings our industry to Cape Town. And in just two years, IDIDTHAT HOUSE has become the place to find each other, catch up properly, meet someone new and remember why we love this industry. Preferably with a drink and chippy in hand.

Every month, South Africa’s top creative and production talent help us crown the best in local craft. Now, after a full year of judging, the numbers are in and the official IDIDTHAT Craft Awards Rankings for 2025 are here. From directors and DOPs to editors, sound studios and VFX artists, this is the leaderboard of the teams consistently producing the industry’s most awarded and admired work. Now you know who to work with next!
Sanaa Films’ director Christian Mangachena doesn’t play it safe. His work is raw, slice-of-life, and a little too close for comfort, which is exactly why it’s so damn exciting. He’s also an exciting commercial option, with an instinct for stories that feel lived-in rather than styled.
This month’s IDIDTHAT.co Craft Awards were in excellent hands, judged by two of the industry’s finest: Sbu Sitole, Chief Creative Officer at The Odd Number, and director Zwelethu Radebe from Egg Films. A massive congratulations to this month’s top crafters, directors Sanaa Mothabisa from Sanaa Films and Zee Ntuli from Darling Films, for work that the judges thought stood out. Nice one gents!
‘I was born the year of the youth uprising, and so my birth is tainted with struggle and revolution.’ This powerful opening line sets the tone for director Sanaa Mothabisa’s latest commercial film for Spotify. Produced by Johannesburg-based Sanaa Films, the spot offers an intimate glimpse into musician Thandiswa Mazwai's inspirations and themes behind her latest album, ‘Sankofa.’ From day one Sanaa Films has been dedicated to producing original and honest work, and this hits the mark.
This month’s IDIDTHAT.co Craft Awards were judged by the spreaders of amazingness; Neo Mashigo, Chief Creative Officer at M&C Saatchi Group South Africa & James Matthes, Creative Executive Officer at Pressure Cooker. Congratulations to November’s top crafters, Zee Ntuli from Darling Films and 7 Films‘ Gorgeous Bushman.
