The One Show has revealed its 2025 finalists, and South Africa again shows up with 18 for the second year in a row. Finalists include local agencies and production companies: Joe Public, TBWA\Hunt Lascaris, Bananas, Promise, Carbon Films, and Enpower Trading. These finalists await the final Pencil decisions, which will be announced during Creative Week in New York on May 15. All finalists will win Gold, Silver, Bronze Pencils or Merits. Go team SA!

There are 8 days left until the third annual AVIJOZI Festival kicks off on September 14-15, 2024 at Summer Place in Hyde Park. This year’s festival spotlights Film, Animation, Visual Effects, AI, and Interactive Technology, including Gaming and VR. The exciting line-up, of over 60 global industry leaders, has just been released and includes talks from industry powerhouses like Greg Gray, who will share his expertise on directing for story and character, Ellen Poon, who has worked alongside legends like George Lucas and Christopher Nolan on projects like Star Wars and Avatar, and Hamid Ibrahim, one of the co-creators of the series IWAJU, Disney’s first collaborative animation project with another studio.

Chocolate Tribe, the high-end visual effects, animation, and IP development studio, has once again made us say, ‘Wait, is that not real?!’ The game of creature creation on the continent has been taken to another level with their latest animated hyena character named Jonga, a photoreal masterpiece crafted for the Netflix film ‘iNumber Number 2: Jozi Gold.’ This project marks the first CGI-created creature to come from South Africa in a Netflix feature but more importantly, this work proves that even our smaller studios from South Africa can rival the best in the world.
