January’s IDIDTHAT.co Craft Awards were judged by Darling Films‘ director, Chloe Coetsee and ECD of Machine_ Cape Town, PJ Eales. Congratulations to Daniel Morcos from Carbon Films AND James O’ Sullivan and the late SJ Myeza from 7Films on being awarded Best in Craft.
Directing duo Lusanda Mgoduka and Melany Ismail have partnered with They’s founders, Darren Gordon and Alan Irvin. The refreshed They family, joined by female director, Wandile Xaba, unpack the challenge of getting black female directors through the pitch room doors, not to mention black queer and trans directors. They ask the ad industry to step up and join them because it’s not just a They thing, it’s an us thing, a South African thing.
June’s IDIDTHAT Craft Awards were judged by Sibusiso Sitole (CCO at The Odd Number) and Evy Katz (Editor at Left Post). Best in Craft was awarded to Telekom ‘Cyber Mobbing’ for Direction, Editing, and Cinematography. Huge congrats to the team - Kim Geldenhuys, Adam Bentel, and Matthias Graatz.

November’s iDidTht Craft Awards were judged by the highly Instagrammable ECD of King James Group JHB, Graeme Jenner. Born in England (but we won’t hold that against him), Graeme moved to SA, was raised in Secunda and became a Graphic Designer in Joburg. Since then he has made his mark on the industry in countless ways, including being the Founder of King James II. An honour and a privilege to have you Graeme!
Creative Director at Grey Africa/Liquid, Steph van Niekerk once went on stage 15 times on a single night at the Loeries. She’s one of SA’s most awarded creatives in film, but it’s time that people know that the real talent lies with her cat, word-renowned film critic and enthusiast, Dmitri Moses, who will be joining her as co-judge this month.
