As part of this year’s Cannes Lions build-up, we’re celebrating a powerful initiative that’s all about access and representation. Open Chair, the platform founded by industry powerhouse Suhana Gordhan to uplift and connect women across the creative industry, successfully secured 15 passes for South African women through the festival’s global ERA Programme (Equity, Representation, and Accessibility).
Last week we hosted our first-ever IDIDTHAT Cannes Predictions Night, bringing together agency creatives to celebrate South Africa's work entered into Cannes 2025. It was a night full of love, laughter, wristbands and world-class craft.

This is the South African work handpicked by our panel of judges as the strongest contenders to roar on the global stage. We asked them to view the work entered by South Africa into Cannes this year and choose the pieces they believe will turn heads in France. South African creativity, your champions have arrived. Each year, we ask a panel of industry greats to review the SA work entered into Cannes Lions and select the pieces they believe could turn heads on the global stage. We’re proud to introduce our 2025 IDIDTHAT Cannes Predictions judges.

This year, South Africa brought home a Wood Pencil at the prestigious D&AD Awards and it went to The Odd Number for their powerful Salvation Army campaign. With thousands of entries from across the globe, getting awarded at D&AD is no small feat, so huge kudos to the team for flying the SA flag high!
South Africa’s creative scene made a strong showing at this year’s One Show, bringing home two Bronze Pencils, three Silver, and 13 Merits. Congrats to the teams at Joe Public, TBWA\Hunt Lascaris, Carbon Films, Darling Films, Dash Digital, Post Modern, Sterling Sound, and newly launched agency Bananas! The One Show has revealed its 2025 finalists, and South Africa again shows up with 18 for the second year in a row. Finalists include local agencies and production companies: Joe Public, TBWA\Hunt Lascaris, Bananas, Promise, Carbon Films, and Enpower Trading. These finalists await the final Pencil decisions, which will be announced during Creative Week in New York on May 15. All finalists will win Gold, Silver, Bronze Pencils or Merits. Go team SA!

Joe Public proudly took to the stage at the 46th annual Loerie Awards in Cape Town as Agency of the Year. Joe Public Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg, and their clients bagged 35 of the sought-after birds, including five wins with production partners Romance Films, Darling Films and Post Modern.

Being selected as a judge at Cannes is a massive achievement. It’s a testament to the respect the industry has for you on an international scale. We know that while a lot of us will be basking in the glitz and canapes Cannes has to offer, these judges will be toiling away in dark rooms, sifting through all the entries to identify the most outstanding work the world has to offer. Not to mention the Cannes Lions Shortlist judges who already had to work overtime and in between their own pitches back home! We see you, and we salute you.
