Full Post Craft: Strangelove (Edit: Kobus Loots, Grade: Nic Apostoli, VFX: Charmaine Greyling & Darian Simon)
Original Music Craft: Howard Audio | Adam Howard

“Whether you’re taking it all in as holistic brand TVC or branching off to the genre-specific executions that span various and quite specific cinematic worlds, the dynamic direction flows effortlessly. Every scene and every scenario carefully considered to ensure that each performance lands its intended punchline. Lots of fun and lots of laughs, packed full of local flavour.
None of this is possible without the slick editing by Kobus Loots, the beautiful grade by Nic Apostoli, as well as the true to form visual effects Charmaine Greyling and Darian Simon. Gold standard post-production from Strangelove.
Last but not least Adam Howard you can take a bow, the original music from Howard Audio provides the appropriate soundscape to round off the high production value of the campaign.”
– IDIDTHAT Guest Judge: Kabelo Moshapalo, ECD at TBWA Hunt Lascaris

“Karien really had a massive job on her hands with this campaign. She absolutely nailed all the genres. I don’t how she managed to direct so many different genres in what I imagine was a short amount of time. Each of the scenes are credible and the comedy is on point. She managed to get wonderful performances and delivery out her actors. Well done to Karien for getting them to all to work together so seamlessly, these are all really enjoyable to watch and put a smile on my face every time I watch them.
Strangelove did an excellent job of pulling all of these pieces together. The edit, VFX and Grade are all very well done. I especially enjoyed the VFX on the Nollywood scene. They had some great content to work with and really did an excellent job making it all work seamlessly together. Well done to Kobus, Nic, Charmaine and Darian.”
– IDIDTHAT Guest Judge: Marc Algranti, EP / Music Supervisor at Pulse Music

CRAFT SPECIAL MENTION:

Castle ‘Africa 5’s’
Egg Films | Zwelethu Radebe (Direction Craft)
Fabian Vettiger (Cinematography Craft)

“I like how it feels so authentically Pan African, gritty and multi-textured from great casting, as well as rich locally nuanced scenes. Leaving you with memorable beautiful people, spaces and notably street-level football action. All this complimented by the fast-paced camerawork and energetic edit with quick cuts bringing the exciting dynamic 5 a side sports format to life.”
– IDIDTHAT Guest Judge: Kabelo Moshapalo, ECD at TBWA Hunt Lascaris

CRAFT SPECIAL MENTION:
Awarded by Guest Judge: Kabelo Moshapalo
Johhnie Walker ‘Trevor Noah’
Pulse Music | Marc Algranti
(Music Supervision Craft)

“This spot is all about progress and having won previously for the crafted direction in creating the sense of fluid movement, the visuals and story wouldn’t be as impactful, apparitional and more importantly complete without a distinct music approach. It is immersive and gives the spot stature that keeps the fast-paced edit and storytelling energy on the beat.”
– IDIDTHAT Guest Judge: Kabelo Moshapalo, ECD at TBWA Hunt Lascaris

CRAFT SPECIAL MENTION:
Awarded by Guest Judge: Marc Algranti
Standard Bank ‘HeforShe’ (Directors Edit & Final Mix)
First Pencil | Justine Puren-Calverley
(Direction Craft)

“Justine’s direction drew me in from the very first breath of this film. She takes you along the emotional journey. Her point of view puts you right into these women’s feelings. We never get to see their faces, the brave faces they need to put on everyday. The shortness of breath upfront creates a sense of unease and this unease continues throughout the film. Justine has managed to portray a very uncomfortable reality that is very moving and has resulted in a powerful piece of work. Well done.”
