IDIDTHAT Presents ‘SHE DID THAT’
Welcome to IDIDTHAT’s monthly series where we shine a spotlight on the women in the South African production industry. SHE DID THAT makes it even easier to find local female filmmakers. Our hope is that this will become a talent showcase and a useful resource to access and discover the right people for your projects. Although we will only be featuring women and non-binary people, the goal is that it will encourage the inclusion of more underrepresented filmmakers across all production work created by South Africans.
Thina Zibi
Director at Hello Circus
Thina started in advertising as an art director and worked in leading agencies carving her way up to CD, but her love for visual storytelling pushed her to become a Film Director. Her films ‘Tjuele’ and ‘Bakhona’, received the rode reel cinematography award as well as an art direction award and her short film ‘Bompi’ was shortlisted at ARIFF 2022. Thina’s work forces one to engage beyond just a visual realm but also wants to challenge the viewer with the topic at hand.
Anna Telford
Director at Butterfly Films
Trained as a musician, Anna approaches life – and work – with an innate sense for harmony and bold moves. For her craft she has traveled the world, played with explosives, driven humvies in the desert and chased down state secrets. Having learned the ropes at Academy Films in London, Anna has worked alongside filmmaking greats like Jonathan Glazer and Nick Broomfield.
Thea Small
Director at Darling Films
From directing her first commercial featuring Sho Madjozi which collected a Gold, 2 Silvers and a Bronze at Bookmarks, to crafting intimate character portraits in her music videos, Thea’s talents reveal a range of capabilities, grounded in a keen sense of storytelling that gets to the heart of any idea. Her intuitive approach to directing sees that she continues making work that’s positive, entertaining and most of all – empowering.
