IDIDTHAT Presents ‘SHE DID THAT’

Welcome to IDIDTHAT’s new monthly series where we shine a spotlight on the women in the South African production industry. SHE DID THAT makes it even easier to find local female filmmakers. Our hope is that this will become a talent showcase and a useful resource to access and discover the right people for your projects. Although we will only be featuring women and non-binary people, the goal is that it will encourage the inclusion of more underrepresented filmmakers across all production work created by South Africans.

Sam Sterling-Court
Director at The Star Film Company

Sam believes that much of the success of the work lies in how well one prepares. Her background in research means she leaves nothing to chance, while still passionate about creating work that is challenging and bold.

Ying-Poi De Lacy
Director at Massif

Ying-Poi started her advertising career as a creative researcher with South Africa’s top production company and went on to start Little League Films producing online branded content films for some top brands at local agencies where she has built a strong knowledge of film and advertising. Her first commercial for Cadbury’s shot in 2019 was placed 1st in Adforum’s monthly Top 5 Production Directors.

Benitha Vlok
Director/DOP at Video Cartel

Travelling and exploring different cultures has always been a source of inspiration for Benitha. Her key focus is telling stories that have social consciousness at the heart of it. As a director, her portfolio spans across various genres from documentary to music videos, commercial and short film.
