Mushroom Media making moves as top colourist Kyle Stroebel joins the team.
There’s been a lot going on at Mushroom Media lately. New offices, new faces, and now a big-name new addition to the team. Colourist Kyle Stroebel has taken up residency at Mushroom Media Cape Town, adding serious weight to their talent offering and giving Cape Town a new reason to be on everyone’s shortlist for both commercial and long-form work.
Mushroom has built a reputation around solid craft and staying independent for over twenty years now. As founder Warwick Allan puts it, “We’ve always believed that the quality of work and the creative should be the focus and that the environment should support the craft. Kyle shares the same outlook, so we feel it’s a great fit!”
Kyle arrives with an impressive and familiar body of work. You know that ad you love, Kyle probably did that! His reel spans both major commercial campaigns and high-end long-form series, which is the same mix that defines Mushroom’s own slate. “It’s fantastic to have someone of Kyle’s calibre with us,” says Executive Producer Luaan Hong. “He has incredible relationships with directors, he’s trusted on high-stakes work, and he genuinely loves moving between commercials and long-form. That’s exactly who we are.”

Kyle, “What attracts me so much to Mushroom is that it is a creatively-driven technical business. It’s run in a fashion where the quality of the product shines as a result of the focus placed on the creative, while the backbone of technical experts handles the stuff clients should never worry about. There’s a sense of calm in the walls of the offices, which is something not often found inside a building built around chasing deadlines and crazy demands. It’s so exciting to be partnering with people who celebrate the work we do.
I’ve been so lucky to be a part of a lot of amazing work coming out of this country for the last 20 years and I have admired Warwick, Luaan and the team doing the same. For me this is the logical next step and I can’t wait to see what the next years bring.”

Kyle joins a strengthened grading roster that spans both Cape Town and Joburg, including Warwick Allan, Alex May, Misha Beare, Craig Simonetti, Jarryd Duthoit, and Robyn Nesbitt. The addition of Kyle to the team unlocks new possibilities for agencies, production companies, and long-form partners wanting a second major grading presence in Cape Town.
Behind the scenes, Mushroom has also been expanding its talent roster across other post departments. Their editing roster now includes the exceptional Shelby Ncube alongside other well trusted names like Anthony Lee Martin, Jade de Jager, James O’Sullivan, Jo Gibbon, Julian Redpath, Miriam Arndt and Mark Ash, strengthening both the commercial and narrative side of the bench.
On the finishing side, Mushroom’s full time Online, VFX and AI team include Novak Miler, Sarah Kwan, Nkateko Minyuku, Herschelle Ncube, and Jannes Hendrikz. Guiding all of this is a production team led by Luaan Hong, Zintle Boki, Dries Uys, and Jonene van Zyl.
“We have spent a lot of time expanding our facilities these last years, and now the focus is on unlocking their full potential. Human talent is everything in our industry and its exciting to see those two elements really come to life this year.” adds Warwick.
Join the team at Mushroom Media’s Longkloof Studio offices on Thursday 5th February from 4pm for some cheese and wine and a chat with Kyle and the team, even sneak a peek at his new Baselight cave.
