South Africa’s D&AD Work & Winners 2025
This year, South Africa brought home a Wood Pencil at the prestigious D&AD Awards and it went to The Odd Number for their powerful Salvation Army campaign. With thousands of entries from across the globe, getting awarded at D&AD is no small feat, so huge kudos to the team for flying the SA flag high!
Flying Fish gave a guy a billboard. Gentlemen Films’ Jono Hall made it a whole thing.
Comedy chaos, community drama, and a very big billboard in a very small yard. Flying Fish’s latest spot has all the ingredients of a “Surprisingly Good” mockumentary. Brought to life by Joe Public and directed by Jono Hall from Gentlemen Films, the hilariously escalating ad puts performance and tone front and centre.
A Rebel with a car cause. Hungry Films’ Director Juniper takes on Mercedes and wins.
Hungry Films director Juniper recently wrapped one of the most ambitious car campaigns we’ve seen in a while. The brief? Shoot nine Mercedes vehicles, deliver six hero 30-second spots for AMG, four retail ads, and a truckload of extra content. It all had to be done in just five days. For sixteen different regions. And she made it look good.
Blacksmith expands in a world of chaos
Our ad industry is pivoting at warp speed. Creativity’s under pressure, tech is rewriting the rules, and uncertainty is the only certainty… cue the tiny violins. Or listen to Blacksmith. Their new showreel's intention is to inspire others to simply keep creating.
A Bulletproof park for kids; M&C Saatchi Abel and Gun Free SA forces a nation to look twice
In South Africa, gun violence is so normalised it hardly makes the news. That’s why M&C Saatchi Abel and Gun Free South Africa decided to do something radical: propose a bulletproof playground. Biometric access. Panic buttons. 24/7 surveillance. All to protect kids from stray bullets while they try to, you know, play.
IDIDTHAT Monthly Craft Awards
Find out who’s doing the best work in South Africa. Every month we team up with industry leaders to award South Africa’s best in Production Craft. Huge thanks to our recent guest judges who’ve taken the time to judge IDIDTHAT Craft Awards. Look how sexy they are in these black and white pictures we put up – FYI we used the ‘Inkwell’ filter.
Best in Film Craft: August 2019
Our iDidTht Craft Awards for August were judged by Creative Director at TBWA Hunt Lascaris, Nikki Taylor-Garrett. Fresh from serving on the jury at Cannes, Nikki brings over a decade of industry experience, working with some of the top brands while simultaneously creating disruptive work for non-profits. We couldn’t be prouder that she agreed to make our Craft Awards her side-hustle. Thank you Nikki!
Best in Film Craft: July 2019
Every month iDidTht.com teams up with an industry leader to award South Africa’s best in Film Craft. Even though July's judge doesn’t need to look at his own awards (and there are plenty) to validate his success (which is huge), we’re practically giddy when he agrees to judge ours. Thank you to the wonderful Ahmed Tilly 😘
Best in Film Craft: June 2019
Every month iDidTht.com teams up with an industry leader to award South Africa’s best in Film Craft. This month, Claudi Potter, yes, the multiple award-winning Creative Director at Joe Public United, brings her years of judgy-mcjudgerson experience to our awards and we are in awe to say the least. Thank you Claudi and congrats to all the winners.
