Judges Comments by Molefi Thulo, Creative Director at Ogilvy & Mather Johannesburg

Best of Reel: VW Polo ‘011 Beats by Dabone ft. Kwesta’ directed by Kyle Lewis at Arcade Content.
“Take the new VW Polo Beats, add a hot hip hop collaboration, geotag the city of Jo’burg with multiple sounds to turn it into the world’s biggest set of instruments and you’ve got one dope idea. This idea caught my eye because not only do I believe it will resonate with its target audience, but it’s also a funky way of bringing a product benefit to life, especially in the automobile sector. The slick shots, sound design and dynamic editing are additional reasons why this is my choice for Best of Reel.”

Special Mention: The Voice ‘Mechanic directed by Fausto Becatti at Bioscope Films.
“At first I was like, “Where’s this going?” But then the line at the end wrapped it up beautifully. A simple, but humorous spot that leaves a smile on your face. Props to Fausto Becatti for adding intrigue and then hitting us with a twist at the end. Nice.”

Special Mention: Johnnie Walker ‘Born free’ by SJ at 7Films.
“Don’t get it twisted – That’s one of the lines said in the campaign and that’s exactly what I dig about this documentary. Brutally honest, gritty and not trying too hard. Well done to 7Films for a well crafted and cleverly considered campaign.”
