“Among all the epic and all the funny, there was one commercial that stood out, simply because it felt the most honest. A powerful story, authentically told without the need for much smoke or mirrors. 7 Films’ Surf Shack commercial is my pick for ‘Best of Reel’ this month. It’s one of a series, each masterfully written and then sensitively shot. Congrats to the team. I hope these convert at Loeries.”

“Other entries worth a mention this month are BOMB’s McDonald’s commercial. Keenly observed and beautifully paced. It’s a Jozi love story without all the clichés.”
SPECIAL MENTION: Cadbury ‘Graduation’ by Peter Pohorsky at Plank Films (Direction Craft) and Louis Enslin from Produce Sound/Produce Music (Sound: Final Mix Craft)
“I also had to chuckle at Plank Film’s Cadbury commercial. Mr. Pohorsky knows how to extract a spontaneous laugh or two and his work continually feels fresh and relevant. Uncomplicated. Unpretentious, just the way funny should be. Great Audio work from Louis Enslin at Produce Sound/Produce Music made the spot all that more brilliant.”

“Another superb ad, highly entertaining, and laden with smiles and ‘how did they do that’s’ was Egg’s Coke ad, featuring golfer Jordan Spieth. A good old celebrity endorsement skilfully handled. Nice.”
Gordon Ray is a founding partner at M&C Saatchi Abel and ECD of the group’s Cape Town office. As a founder, Gordon has seen the start-up grow to become one of SA’s most admired agencies. Under his leadership the agency has won some of the country’s most creatively prestigious accounts as well as metal at all the major local and international award shows last year. Recently, the agency he co-founded in 2010, was named Adfocus Agency of the Year, an accolade traditionally reserved for agencies 10 years and older. Gordon is currently the World-Wide Creative Chair of the M&C Saatchi Global Network his mission is to inspire work that changes the world and builds on the proud legacy of the brothers Saatchi.
