AWARDED: CRAFT MENTION (DIRECTION)
Bomb Commercials | Justice Muhkeli
Hollard ‘Abantu Bazothini’
IDIDTHAT Guest Judge: Tseliso Rangaka, CCO at FCB Africa
August 2020

Tseliso’s comment: “There’s something in the way Justice approached the Hollard film that makes it worth a mention. Funeral cover ads usually either end up cheesy or come across as insincere. No one can pretend to know what it feels like to be the one in mourning. This felt different to me. It felt genuine and had a beautiful tenderness. The cast, the styling and performances all worked together to create a moment of real empathy.”

Bomb Commercials | Justice Muhkeli
SAT ‘Sakhumzi’
IDIDTHAT Guest Judge: Greg Gray, Director at Romance Films
April 2020

Judge’s comment: “Two testimonial commercials that are worth a special mention, come at a time where the strength of community, hope and opportunity are giving the people of South Africa the strength to weather this storm. Justice Mukheli’s ‘Sakhumzi’ and Robin Adam’s ‘Rhiza Babuyile’ are very different in execution, but are both moving testaments to the power of strength and support in a time of need.”

Ingrams ‘Your Skin. Your Brave’
IDIDTHAT Guest Judge: Nicola Wielopolski, Creative Director at DDB South Africa
January 2020

Judge’s Comment: “I could feel Justice’s soul, his truth and his storytelling in this piece for Ingrams. It is told beautifully, honestly and with a special human touch.”

Judges Comment: “You had me at musical. I love the energy, blend of old with new and the good vibes it leaves you with.”

Bomb Commercials | Teboho
Amstel ‘The Pursuit’
IDIDTHAT Guest Judge: Steph van Niekerk, Creative Director
March 2017

Judges Comment: “It must have been a tricky story to tell. It’s about a man who will stop at nothing to get what he wants (Amstel) but at the same time is consciously trying to help and support those around him. How do you tell the second part of the story without breaking the pace and urgency of what is a classic car chase? Teboho finds a way and there are some lovely moments woven into the chase scene without slowing down the pace of the overall edit. (See 0:44)”

AWARDED: CRAFT MENTION (DIRECTION)

JC Le Roux ‘Release What’s Inside’
IDIDTHAT Guest Judge: Pepe Marais, Chief Creative Officer at Joe Public
May 2016

Judges Comment: “We have worked with Bomb of late and they bring big thinking in terms of treatment to our ideas. They also follow through and over deliver, which is needed in times like these.

AWARDED: BEST IN CRAFT (DIRECTION)
Bomb Commercials | Teboho Mahlatsi
SAB ‘Be the Mentor’
IDIDTHAT Guest Judge: Jonathan Lang, Executive Creative Director at JWT Cape Town
November 2015

Judges Comment: “A fresh piece of film from Teboho Mahlatsi from Bomb Commercials for ‘SAB BE THE MENTOR’. It is powerful, evocative and cuts through to speak to a young generation. Teboho has harnessed all the disciplines at his disposal. It’s real, in your face and you simply can not ignore it.

AWARDED: CRAFT MENTION (DIRECTION)
Bomb Commercials | Teboho
Tiger Brands Morevite ‘Early Morning’
IDIDTHAT Guest Judge: James Cloete, Creative Partner at 7dks
June 2015

Judges Comment: “Teboho’s work for Morevite strikes a wonderful balance between filmic and real and his story telling is as moving as we’ve come to expect from him over the years, but the spell that I found myself under at the start of the commercial had worn off a little by the time it ended.

Ernest Nkosi captures history in first ever documentary about spinning, ‘An Ordinary People’

November 9th, 2021|Comments Off on Ernest Nkosi captures history in first ever documentary about spinning, ‘An Ordinary People’

‘Spinning is where hustlers and dreamers of modest means become heroes’, that’s how the sport of spinning is described by Ernest Nkosi, the director of the new documentary film ‘An Ordinary People’. But there are also very fast-moving cars. There are men and women jumping out of very fast-moving cars, hanging on to very fast-moving cars or standing on top of very moving-fast cars. Physics out of the window y’all! Watch for yourself.
