Jury Duty, changing how South Africa shows up in Cannes
Last week, South Africa’s Cannes Lions jurors made a little history. For the first time, current jurors came together with former jurors and Jury Presidents for Jury Duty, a new IDIDTHAT.co and Nedbank initiative designed to share knowledge and hard-earned lessons before they step into the world’s most influential judging rooms.
Held in a beautiful setting in Joburg, found by our friends at Cherry Picked Locations, the morning session brought together first time jurors heading to Cannes this year with former jurors and jury presidents, Roanna Williams, Fran Luckin, Xolisa Dyeshana, Kensi Nobanda and Suhana Gordhan. There was sharing of experiences, lessons, and advice from inside the jury rooms. The response from the room made it clear that Jury Duty had tapped into something the industry needed. Fran Luckin described it as “a highlight of the last couple of years.”
The initiative was born from a conversation at IDIDTHAT House during Loeries Fringe, when Kensi Nobanda, Group CMO at Nedbank Group, raised a simple question: why wasn’t there a space where South African jurors could learn from each other before arriving at Cannes? Less than a year later, that idea became reality.

More importantly, it felt like the beginning of something bigger. Founder of IDIDTHAT, Julie Maunder says, “I don’t say this lightly, but I genuinely believe we made history today. South Africa has never had a space like this before. The generosity, openness and willingness to share knowledge in that room was extraordinary, and I have no doubt it will change how our jurors walk into Cannes from this year forward. Thank you to Kensi and the Nedbank team for partnering with IDIDTHAT so we can continue to move th eindustry forward. We couldn’t do what we do without you.”
For years, South Africa has celebrated its jurors after Cannes. Jury Duty is about supporting them before they get there. By sharing knowledge, experiences, and context openly, South Africa is building a stronger collective understanding of what it takes to represent our creativity on the global stage.
Here’s the full GALLERY of the morning spent together at Jury Duty on the 4th June 2026.
