ABOUT THE WORK

Let Your Ink-Side Out – Crazy Combos
Back to school is usually boring for kids. It’s back to purgatory. But once you remind them that it’s actually back to imagination and friends and inspiration – that’s when they’re encouraged to let their ink-side out.

BIC, the brand that stands for self-expression, wanted to make a back to school film that had its heart in the very kids that they were talking to, to lean into the kind of crazy imagination that can only come from kids.

The idea was to lean into the mad mash-ups that they, set free by a bic pen and paper, would create with each other. We recruited grade 4-6’s at a junior school in Jozi to help us out by drawing their favourite creatures. This gave us hundreds of pictures to choose from to create the most outrageous, endearing and humorous creatures in our film.

The result was the kind of joy that could only come from a group of 9-12 year olds. The best kind.
This is creativity directly from the kids, for the kids. That’s how BIC helps them Let their ink-side out.
