IDIDTHAT Presents ‘SHE DID THAT’

Welcome to IDIDTHAT’s new monthly series where we shine a spotlight on the women in the South African production industry. SHE DID THAT makes it even easier to find local female filmmakers. Our hope is that this will become a talent showcase and a useful resource to access and discover the right people for your projects. Although we will only be featuring women and non-binary people, the goal is that it will encourage the inclusion of more underrepresented filmmakers across all production work created by South Africans.

Samantha Nell
Director at Gentlemen Films

Sam has stamped her unique blend of humour, narrative and quirky characters on several campaigns with some of South Africa’s most beloved brands. A filmmaker whose work has been showcased at festivals across four continents, Samantha is known for her idiosyncratic voice which oscillates between comedy and tragedy and sometimes both at the same time. She possesses a strong eye for performances and a distinct visual aesthetic.

Jabu Nadia Newman
Director at Romance Films

Jabu is a female director and photographer who captures uniquely diverse and honest narratives, predominantly centered around South African youth culture. She encourages her subjects to tell their own stories in their own way and champions equal representation both in front of and behind the camera.

Itu Nomtshongwana
Editor at The Syndicate

Itu is a dynamic, results-oriented, multi-software, video editor. Working in television and commercials, she has learned the importance of accuracy, deadlines and communication. She is a young creative who’s always up to date with the latest trends.
