Director Craig Moore is back at Robot and he’s bringing the fire home

After nearly two decades lighting up sets from London to Los Angeles, crafting cinematic commercials, fashion films, and music videos director Craig Moore is back on home turf. Now based in Cape Town, Craig has rejoined the ranks at ROBOT, the creative machine he co-founded with Executive Producer Liam Johnson, and he’s bringing the heat to South Africa’s creative scene.

This is more than a homecoming, it’s a full-circle power moment. Craig’s journey saw him co-launch FAMILIA in London back in 2013, where he spent over a decade directing for iconic brands and artists. From Wizkid and Dua Lipa to Adidas and Nike, his fingerprints are all over the culture.

Now, with Robot reloading and riding an exciting wave thanks to a slick rebrand and new website, Craig is back, not just to shoot, but to build, elevate, and disrupt. “South Africa has such a good energy right now,” Craig says. “We’re in a moment, a kind of creative renaissance. You feel it in the streets, on the walls, in the work. Artists are returning home, and the game is shifting. And Robot is standing at the ready to support our creative roster throughout this movement.”

Joining a fire roster that includes Ayanda Duma, Alex Mothlabane, Ceara McEvoy, Nelis Botha, and Zandi Tisani, Craig is diving into the thick of it, blending his international experience with that unmistakable South African spark. “Some of my best work was born right here,” he adds. “There’s a rawness in this place, an edge that’s always stayed with me. Robot was part of the reason I came back. We started this thing years ago, and now I get to help take it to the next level.”

From his UKMVA-winning debut music video ‘The Renegade(shot in Soweto) to 2 billion+ views across a globe-spanning body of work, Craig’s eye is as sharp as ever. He crafts bold, cinematic worlds layered with texture, performance, and soul and his acclaimed short film ‘Into The Arms of Sunshine’ is proof. Shot on South Africa’s West Coast in collaboration with London fashion label Toogood, the film fuses poetry, identity, and movement into something hauntingly beautiful. It’s scooped up awards at Ciclope Africa, Berlin Indie Film Festival, Black Swan, the UK’s 1.4 Awards, and earned praise from Pitch Fanzine, LBB Online, and Shots.

Whether it’s Adidas, Porsche, Pepsi, Wrangler, or intimate fashion stories soaked in light and shadow, Craig brings the same hunger to every frame. And when he’s not on set? You’ll probably find him in his studio, making bespoke hats under the label Chopper Sherwood, a hands-on passion project born from a Venice Beach obsession and built with old-world craftsmanship. “It’s freedom,” he says. “Pure creative control. No guidelines. Just me and the felt.”

Back at Robot, a machine built on creativity, chaos and craft, Craig’s not just shooting, he’s shaping the next wave. The future is local, global, and beautifully in-between. And as he says with a grin:

“We’ve got a big year ahead.”
