Boundless announces the appointment of Fran Luckin as Co-Chief Creative Officer of the whole world
One of South Africa’s most celebrated creative leaders joins Roanna Williams to help Boundless continue its completely madly ambitious and deeply committed pursuit of the world’s most loved ideas.
In a move described by industry insiders as “inevitable,” “coming for years,” and by at least one creative director as “about bloody time,” Boundless today announced the appointment of Fran Luckin as Co-Chief Creative Officer, joining Roanna Williams in leading the agency’s rapidly expanding global creative empire (Now represented in Parkview, Bryanston, Lonehill, Dainfern and Parkmore).
Luckin, widely regarded as one of South Africa’s most awarded, respected and genuinely liked creative leaders (a rare and statistically improbable triple), will take on the role of Co-CCO effective immediately, she has been given the keys to the snack cupboard and now controls the lifeblood of the agency. Roanna Williams has the key to the drinks cupboard and with the two levers of creativity in hand they are ready to take on the world.
Her remit will include co-creative leadership across Boundless’ extensive international network of offices in Bryanston and overseeing the extensive creative department. She brings 30% more creative firepower just by adding to the headcount.

Boundless founder Paul Jackson said the appointment represents a major step forward in the agency’s long-term ambition to become the most extremely creative and loud global powerhouse the industry has ever seen. “We’re absolutely thrilled to have Fran join us,” he said. “Not just because she’s one of the sharpest creative minds in the business, but because she’s also a wonderful human being, which frankly feels like an unfair advantage in advertising.” He added: “Between Fran and Roanna, we now have two of the most formidable creative leaders in the business guiding our work. Which means the rest of you will have to try much, much harder.”
Luckin brings with her a reputation for building exceptional creative cultures and producing world-class work. Over the years she has helped shape some of South Africa’s most admired agencies and has accumulated an enviable collection of awards, accolades, industry respect and lanyards.
But according to Roanna Williams, the real value she brings goes far beyond trophies. “Fran has that rare ability to combine creative excellence with humanity,” said Williams. “She understands that great work comes from people who feel brave enough to think differently. And thinking differently is exactly what Boundless is all about.” She added: “Also she’s extremely funny, which is useful because this industry takes itself way too seriously.”
The appointment comes as Boundless continues its mission to create the world’s most loved ideas, work that doesn’t just get noticed, but genuinely connects with people, travels across cultures and occasionally makes someone snort-laugh in a meeting. “Advertising can get a little obsessed with itself,” said Luckin. “What I love about Boundless is the focus on ideas that people actually enjoy. Also, the snacks are excellent.”
With Williams and Luckin now sharing the creative helm, Boundless believes it has assembled what analysts are already calling a slightly unfair amount of creative firepower. Or as one industry observer put it: “This is either the start of something very big… or the beginning of a beautiful amount of trouble.”
Boundless, for its part, is hoping for both.
