Tessa Ford Post’s 14-year commitment to creativity

When you think of high-end post-production in South Africa, Tessa Ford Post likely comes to mind. But there’s more to this powerhouse team than just premium work on big-budget campaigns. Yes, they’re major players in the industry, but they’re also an approachable, creative-first house that takes on projects of all shapes and sizes.

We caught up with the Tessa Ford Post team at the Loeries this year, where owner and head editor Tessa was serving as a judge in the Craft in editing, sound design, music and performance category and producers Tarryn Reddy and Mandy Biart were celebrating the team’s shortlists and some heavy Loerie metal wins. They had standout work like Capital Legacy for Massif and Halo winning Silver, alongside nominations for campaigns with Coronation (Bioscope Films & Ogilvy Joburg), KFC (Giant Films and Ogilvy Joburg), FNB x Springboks (Grid Worldwide and Scholars Films), and Makro (Gentlemen Films and Accenture Song). The perception may be that Tessa Ford Post doesn’t take on smaller jobs and only tackle high-end award-worthy projects, but that’s definitely not the case. They take on all projects, any work that keeps the team out of trouble really.

Speaking with the three of them, two things are clear – they are kind, really funny, smart humans, and that counts for a lot in this industry, especially considering you might need to share a dark editing suite with them! Secondly, authenticity, strong relationships, and a ‘nothing is too difficult’ attitude define their approach. “We’re happy to bring any project to life,” says Tessa. This flexibility, paired with a reputation for delivering excellence, has positioned them at the top of their game, while remaining down-to-earth and as Mandy puts it, ‘drama-free.’

Tessa’s journey into editing wasn’t exactly planned. Originally trained as a concert pianist (how cool?!), she pivoted into the film world when she landed a role as a second assistant editor on features. This is where she was fortunate to learn from incredible women like Editors Nena Olwage and Valma Botha. “There are still not enough women in editing,” Tessa points out. “We’re natural storytellers with incredible patience, and I’ve always made it a priority to push for more female talent.” Mentorship is something Tessa values deeply.
