The Vars e-newsletter was born in 2020 as part of the digital ecosystem of Drakenstein Municipality. Vars gave Drakenstein Municipality the platform to engage with the broader community about their stories, their people, and their world. It gives the municipality a sense of humanity when telling the stories of the community.  

What makes Vars innovative and creative is that we package municipal news, information and local human-interest stories in a visually appealing way that reads like a magazine. We include long-form articles, video interviews, and photo stories that are produced in short turnaround to ensure relevance. 

Some of the content in Vars is written by local businesses and organisations within the Drakenstein are. They supply in-depth articles about their industry or a specific theme, making Vars a valuable business and tourism resource that appeals to the local and broader readers. 

Vars is distributed to the newsletter database, available from the Drakenstein website, and deeded onto the social media channels run by Drakenstein. This means that the content lives on multiple channels and is consumable by members.
