Toyota ‘It’s not a Bakkie, It’s a Hilux’

ABOUT THE WORK
Howard Audio was commissioned recently to power the latest Toyota Hilux TV commercial shot by director Anton Visser of Patriot films and agency Publicis. All sound design and final mix was performed and Adam Howard also produced the epic music track. We were tasked with re-recording Richard Strauss’ overture to his opera – ~Das Rheingold! No easy task – it’s a massive piece for a huge orchestra.
The interesting thing about the piece is that it doesn’t change harmonic information – it stays the whole time in Eb Major. Using just orchestration – the piece just continues to grow – like it’s the creation of the universe – and repetitive musical lines add up t thee biggest crescendo in music. We re-created the piece note by note using a hybrid of orchestral samples and some of the best classical players in South Africa. Sound design is also a big part of the commercial too – and careful crafting was needed to bring the whole piece together.
