ABOUT THE WORK
Three Ships Whisky, the first South African whisky, is globally awarded. But it needed to connect with a younger audience closer to home. While most whiskies lean on Old World credentials, Three Ships is a ‘young world’ whisky – and that gave the brand permission to poke fun at traditional whisky tropes and the category’s usual stuffiness.
In this commercial, Three Ships Whisky shows up in places that big brand, Old World whiskies never have. Shot in Orlando, Soweto, the commercial uses scenes familiar to locals to firmly own the South African credentials of the brand, and celebrate the unique flavour of South African neighbourhoods.
Each scene gives a fresh local twist to tired whisky language to drive home a message about South African whisky and drinking occasions: Exceptional is here.
