View I DID THAT Craft Awards December 2025 showcase
ABOUT THE WORK
Dan Mace asked Checkers for the keys and one night alone in their store. The idea stemmed from a culmination of everything he learned from his time in the traditional advertising and YouTube space. With an open ended brief, the goal was to showcase everything a Checkers Hyper has in its stores, proving the statement that they are the one stop shop for everything Christmas.
What ensued was a journey of curiosity and exploration, utilising everyday products to create a narrative of purpose, to make music and to answer everyones question of “what would I do if I had a whole store to myself?” Over two nights of shooting the team was tasked to showcase 50+ products. For the audience to feel the magnitude of what the Hyper store has, it was imperative that every product was to be used with a purpose which helped drive the narrative of the story forward.
Using twenty different appliances to gather over two thousand unique sounds they made, to recreate Carol of the Bells. Constantly reverting to inductive shots to build intrigue at the beginning of each scene to eventually reveal the major feat Dan achieves like building a swimming pool with a scissor lift diving board, putting together the ultimate campsite in the outdoor section, a full entertainment gaming set up and a highly intricate hot wheels track with an audience of Checkers’ top selling toys.
Utilising multiple action cameras in an extreme motor sports style of shooting we hyperbolise the scale of the store and what it has to offer, also bringing perceivable toy cars to life with sound and POV hood shots inviting the audience to this micro world. Through comedic timing, tension and perspective we aimed to entertain the audience with this ad, hopefully by the end of it with them realising that a Checkers Hyper isn’t just a one stop shop but it is an experience.
