ABOUT THE WORK
30 years since it hosted it’s last Grand Prix, we “broke in” to Kyalami Circuit to do the first hot lap with a modern Formula 1 car with legendary driver David Coulthard and Oracle Red Bull Racing. This is a statement piece to promote bringing back an official Formula 1 race to to the African continent, and to promote the Red Bull Showrun event that took place in Sandton, Johannesburg.
JUDGE’S NOTES
Suspending a Formula 1 car from a helicopter and flying through the Johannesburg CBD presents a number of challenges. Through a mix of real in-camera footage, crafty editing and VFX, we overcame these challenges to create a unique film that captures both the stunt itself, and a cinematic narrative that captures the heart and essence of Johannesburg.
