Production company CreateSA.tv on creativity through inclusivity

CreateSA.tv is a 100% female-owned production company that’s basically doing it all, and doing it a little differently. Their talent pool includes directors, cinematographers, photographers, and editors, all geared up to create TVC’s, digital content, and campaign stills. Apart from offering solutions from concept to post, what really sets CreateSA.tv apart, is the heartbeat of the company – an approach they call #Radicalinclusivity.

* The team also works with independent & freelance directors, editors and photographers on a regular basis.

‘From the photographers and directors we work with, right through to our production team, crew and suppliers, we try to be as inclusive and diverse as possible,’ says CreateSA.tv Founder and Executive Producer, Elisma Uys-Hanekom.

You know CreateSA.tv takes things seriously when they have an in-house ‘Head of Inclusivity’ and her name is Nicola Scott-Barrett. Nicola comes with 15 years of commercial experience in various departments and says, ‘Creativity comes alive when you look at inclusivity as a mission and a passion, instead of a requirement.’

Director Lucinda Ohlson adds, ‘Diversity is an opportunity for more refined and expressive results.’ And the results have been pretty impressive as the team have built up a reel of really impactful work. Below some of our favourite commercials and their film showreel.

CreateSA.tv launched in 2016, the brainchild of Executive Producer Elisma Uys-Hanekom, offering agencies and clients stills, TVCs, music videos and online content production that can be tailored and scaled according to budgets and briefs. ‘We have collaborated with various ad agencies over the years, including Grid Worldwide, Saatchi & Saatchi, Wunderman Thompson and many more to create award-winning local and global campaigns and commercials for clients including Jameson, Airbnb, MINI, Nedbank, Telkom, FNB, Qatar Tourism, Old Mutual and many more,’ says Elisma.

Apart from creating kick-ass work, CreateSA.tv also sets out to nurture and mentor emerging talent from marginalised groups. ‘Through our mentorship initiative, we pair our more senior talent with emerging creatives to grow their portfolio and experience, giving them the proper tools to succeed in this industry,’ says Nicola. Currently, the mentorship initiative includes Priya Patal, a young filmmaker and director-in-training, Sakhile Rampa, an emerging photographer, Cyanda Mzuku, a young photographer, videographer and digital/lighting assistant, and Jessica Eatwell, our production intern.
