“Gorgeous illustrations. An honour to the “hand-made”, and we could all use a bit of that in our craft.”

ABOUT THE WORK
Problem:
Zero Carbon Guildford is an NGO that tackles environmental challenges
with practical solutions that make a real difference. One of their projects is the Library of Things – like a book library, but with useful objects like power tools, gardening and kitchen appliances, sports equipment and toys and games. The idea is to borrow, rather than buy, saving on carbon emissions, storage space and money. They wanted to get the word out to the town
of Guildford. The problem? Zero Carbon has Zero Budget.
Solution:
As the Library of Things is actually housed in a book library, we linked the 200 items in the Library of Things to books. The book that you check in sparks an idea for the item that you check out. Our tone was playful and tongue-in-cheek to be memorable. And to match the DIV nature of the items in the library, we drew the posters ourselves, using an illustration style that makes them feel home-made. Media owner JC Decaux liked the artwork so much that they gave us 5000 GBP free media in and around Guildford station.
Results:
122 000 people reached (more than the 70 000 population of Guildford)
366 new website visits.
