ABOUT THE WORK

A hopeless romantic goes wildly over the top to impress his Valentine, but when his “burning love” turns hilariously literal, the date night goes up in smoke. Just as all seems lost, KFC swoops in to save the evening. Introducing KFC’s Love-Month Menu – proving the only thing that should be on fire this Valentine’s is the flavour; just “Keep Love Simple.”

NOTE FOR THE JUDGES

Bringing this commercial to life was a genuine team effort from beginning to end. Nearly 95% of what appears on screen was achieved in-camera; a reflection of the detailed planning and precise on-set execution, while our editor (Shelby Ncube) and post-production partners at Tessa Ford Post & Sphere, did an exceptional job enhancing and seamlessly bringing it all together.

With an incredibly tight turnaround, the entire team showed relentless commitment, creative problem-solving and, a strong collaborative spirit alongside our agency partners at Ogilvy JHB.

Our lead, Godfrey Malinda, delivered a standout performance, and the casting process itself required extensive stunt testing and careful vetting to ensure no fire phobias, with our professional stunt team prioritising safety at every stage.

Every department moved in sync – DOP (Adam Vinkour) beautifully lit and realised Grant’s vision, while Art Director (Gerard van Zyl) and Set Builder (Jacque van der Merwe) meticulously designed and executed two full set builds over two days. Ambitious and fast-paced, the project was driven by passion and teamwork – the kind of journey that makes the final result deeply rewarding and something we’re truly proud to have pulled off.
