Grid Worldwide returns to it’s independent edge

Grid Worldwide is independent again and it thinks the timing couldn’t be better. After 16 years as part of TBWA\SA, Grid Worldwide has completed a management buyout, officially returning to full independence from 1 June.

“The most dangerous thing a creative agency can become is experienced,” says Nathan Reddy, Founder and Chairman of Grid. “The industry is changing faster than ever, and independence gives us the freedom to respond just as quickly.”

David Cohen, Partner and Co-CEO, believes the market is moving in the same direction. “We think the next few years will belong to entrepreneurial agencies that can move quickly, solve problems across disciplines and build closer relationships with clients.”

While the agency is leaving the network, its leadership is quick to acknowledge what those 16 years delivered. “We’ve always operated with an independent mindset,” says Reddy. “Our time with TBWA\SA strengthened our capabilities, expanded our client base and gave us valuable experience. Now we take all of that forward with the speed and flexibility that have always been part of Grid’s DNA.”

According to Omnicom Advertising SA Group CEO Luca Gallarelli, the decision comes at a moment of broader industry change. “The combination of Omnicom and IPG is a once-in-a-generation moment for our industry. As we looked at how our collective evolves for the future, it became clear that this next chapter made sense for everyone. It allows both businesses to focus on their strengths, pursue new opportunities and continue building for the future.”

The buyout was led by the same leadership team that has shaped Grid over the past decade, with no changes to the agency’s clients, creative leadership or capabilities. Instead, independence opens the door to moving faster, expanding into new categories, taking on more international work and building partnerships on its own terms.

Grid continues to offer its full range of services, spanning brand strategy, design, creative, campaigns, digital, content, PR and brand storytelling, alongside 608, its specialist culture consultancy. “There has never been a better time to reclaim our independence,” says Adam Byars, Partner and Co-CEO. “The industry is changing in our favour. We have the people, the pace and the entrepreneurial mindset to make the most of it.”
