Heineken ‘Bar de Change’ Case Film

ABOUT THE WORK

The biggest barrier to socialising abroad wasn’t finding a bar. It was affording the first beer. International travel is expensive. Especially when you’re coming from a country with a weaker currency. For South Africans, the cost of a simple beer overseas can be up to five times more than back home, putting social moments out of reach. So, Heineken created Bar De Change. A Bureau de Change… for beers.

Before leaving the country, travellers could buy Heineken at local South African prices at an airport pop-up activation. Then redeem those beers at participating bars in Europe. The platform was created for web so other emerging markets could easily adopt it, and the Bar De Change could easily hack the exchange rate for years to come.
