Usual Suspects Films, a lean, big value Post-Production offering

Operating on a lean model with minimal overheads, Usual Suspects Films offers agencies and clients big value at highly competitive rates. Since its founding in 2017, the post-production house has been delivering top services across commercials, feature films, and doccies, as well as long-form on platforms like Amazon, Netflix, and Showmax. They offer everything from offline and online editing to colour grading, whatever the project needs.

Usual Suspects worked on approximately 60% of the projects nominated for SAFTAs (South African Film and Television Awards) in the post category this year. We are very proud of that,” says Managing Director Christopher Harvey.

Christopher started his career as a Digital Imaging Technician in 2009 and, along with two former colleagues, founded Usual Suspects with offices in Linden, Joburg, after years of freelancing. “We’re not weighed down by large infrastructure costs or lots of permanent staff. Instead, we scale up talent and resources when it’s needed while maintaining a streamlined approach for smaller ones. This means we can deliver the same technical expertise and experience as the big shops, but at a price point that works for a wider range of agencies and clients,” says Christopher.

This flexibility has allowed Christopher and his team to handle a wide variety of projects, including some of the most-watched series on global streaming platforms. For Burnt Onion Productions they worked on How to Ruin Christmas, one of Netflix South Africa’s top-performing shows with some of the highest watching numbers globally for the streamer and then there was Rosemary’s Hitlist, which Christopher believes is one of Showmax’s most-watched documentaries.
