Project Description

The Task:

Miavana is an exclusive, ultra-luxury eco-destination located on Nosy Ankao, an island sanctuary off the Madagascan mainland. This remote paradise is the ultimate in barefoot luxury. Our task was to develop every aspect of the brand, from strategic positioning and name generation through to identity development and every touch point that would deliver a unique luxury experience.

The Idea:

Mother Nature’s balance is evident throughout this exotic paradise. Her rhythm and flow informed our approach to the creation of the Miavana logotype. In Malagasy, Miavana means to reconcile, to restore the natural balance. The considered proportions and curves of the letterforms are inspired by the Indian Ocean’s rippling waves as they meet the pristine beaches.

We honoured nature’s artistry and sought to mimic it in our design. The colours of rich copper and turquoise are drawn from the island’s abundant coral reefs, flawless beaches and shimmering ocean.

The island’s French heritage was reflected in bold, Breton stripes, while local flora and fauna were depicted in the style of traditional Madagascan woodcuts. These designs were tastefully applied to various brand touch points including menus, matchboxes, coasters, fans, tissue paper, booklets, helicopters and boats. In the manner of timeless luxury brands, the design is both elegant and refined – requiring no embellishment to convey its message.
