Fell + Company, from concept to screen, an agency and production company built for today

As a creative agency, combining full service production and an inhouse post company, Fell + Co handle everything under one roof – ideas, production, gear, post, final deliverables, the whole shebang. This means faster turnarounds, smarter budgeting, and a personalised, cohesive service – perfect for a brand that wants the attention and expertise of an agency but without the big overheads. In terms of the work they create for their brands, Head of Relations Kirsten Gerber sums it up perfectly, “We don’t sell products; we tell stories about people who do.”

Founded in 2017 by Greg Fell, the company was born out of a desire to be more connected to the entire content-creation life cycle. Greg had spent a decade entrenched in the global world of adventure sports documentaries and music videos at a time when technology and social media were rapidly changing the filmmaking landscape. His curiosity and restlessness drove a need to really explore what a modern day agency rooted in storytelling could look like. Fell + Co is now comprised of a team of multi-faceted creative thinkers and executors, with a deep understanding of how empathy shows up in the craft. ‘We use this empathy to help brands and partners share stories and unlock insights,” says Kirsten.

If someone had to create an agency for today’s sped up world, it would look a lot like Fell + Co. With an in-house production and post-production team (which means everyone is on the same page throughout the creative and production process), they manage everything down to delivery, ensuring that assets are optimised for any platform, whether it’s a full-length doccie on Netflix or a 15-second vertical video for social media.

“Nowadays everyone is a ‘storyteller,’ so it’s important for us to distinguish our WHY,” says Greg. By focusing on the human side of their subjects and partners, Fell + Co helps brands unlock the insights that resonate most with audiences. Their ability to build trust quickly is a cornerstone of the company’s success. As Kirsten notes, “It’s a cliché to say it’s about the people, but the trust can’t be bought through a great idea alone, it has to be earned.” This trust, combined with a genuine connection to the subjects they film, allows Fell + Co to tell stories that are both intimate and impactful. Here are a few of our faves.

Banyana Ba Style – Feature film on Netflix and shortlisted for 2024 BrandStoryTelling event in Utah, USA

Track Your Life – Short film for Boyd Varty

The Little Things – Brand film to launch Remote Vans in the US

Her Way – Brand Film for Salomon WMN

‘Track Your Life’, directed by Greg Fell and edited by Fell + Co’s Joshua Swanepoel, featuring Boyd Varty was awarded a Craft Mention by director Dani Hynes from Love Films in September’s IDIDTHAT Craft Awards. Dani commented “Shooting in a place as beautiful as Londolozi might seem like an easy ask, but with unpredictable targets and no guarantees of what you will find on the day is something to appreciate. Getting results like this, that hold us in the story and sweep us easily into the narrative with ease is no mistake. Each shot drew me in and brought me closer to the subject. Powerful story well told.”

The company’s manifesto, which you can read here, speaks to capturing life’s chaotic beauty, often without a script. This approach is showcased in projects like Sundowns Stories, a series of short films commissioned by Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club. “This ‘gift’ to the supporters was a curated and carefully crafted inside look into the team they adore,” says Kirsten, reflecting on how the vulnerability of the players, ambassadors, and fans shaped the storytelling.

Similarly, The Class of 2030 campaign for Investec Wealth & Investment, “The Story of Suresh Singh is a wonderful example of that empathy and trust translating into a beautiful brand story,” says Greg. These projects illustrate how Fell + Co taps into the highs and lows of life, building narratives that resonate with universal human truths.

And on how the team unwind, Kirsten adds, “We do, for our sins, act like a family. There is a lot of love and time spent together in and out of working hours. Celebrating and navigating work and life together as a team, it takes a village, and I would choose this village every time”.
