Poaching has reached crisis level in South Africa. To save every rhino that we can many organisations are teaming together to rescue rhinos on the brink of death. Some have been treated and operated on with serious wounds to their faces, where their horns have been brutally hacked off by poachers. Other survivors are orphaned rhinos – left scared and alone when their mothers are poached. Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre is one of these organisations – that rescue and rehabilitate survivors of poaching. This is a story of six survivors of poaching and the work HESC is doing to save so many rhinos like these. The aim is that these rhinos, once healthy and matured, are released back into the wild.
